Las Colinas Cuban & International Cuisine

by Victoria Hagendorf

There is a hidden treasure of a restaurant when it comes to Latin food called Las Colinas. They have been there for over 12 years and are open 7 days for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The reason people come here is because the food is fabulous, the portions are very large, and the prices are extremely reasonable. If you are out early stop by for one of their breakfast specials offered from 7-11am with 2 eggs, choice of meat, potatoes, or tomatoes, toast AND coffee, including cafe con leche, starting at only $3.95.

We stopped by for lunch and tried the chick pea soup with pumpkin, potatoes, chorizo, and other fresh vegetables and seasonings. The flavor enhanced with all those vegetables and spices made it amazing. We also selected the oxtails, served with rice and beans, and sweet plantains. There was enough food for two people. Another great selection was the Lechon Asado (roast pork) and was fabulous; slow roasted seasoned pork, was pulled into strips and mixed with sauteed onions. Another recommendation is any of their other soups, especially the chicken soup, with it’s superb hearty base, filled with delicious carrots, potatoes, celery, and good sized pieces of fresh chicken… mmmm …good. Another great dish is the chicken with sauteed peppers and onions. The way all those flavors mix together is sensational. They have an extensive menu with many Latin flavors and dishes. I noticed they had Mofongo, a specialty from Puerto Rico; as well as Ceviche, with shrimp and fish (usually only found in Peruvian establishments. Las Colinas has fantastic Churrasco and Mariscos (steak & seafood); their selection of fish and shrimp prepared many different ways is impressive, featuring: grilled, scampi, creole, fried and more. Interesting appetizers include: empanadas, tamales, croquettes, and stuffed plantains.

Let’s not forget about dessert, as you walk in there is a revolving showcase, offering many desserts such as bread pudding, flan, tres leches, and other Latin Specialties. Stop by and tell them I sent you.

Los Colinas is located at 2724 N. Andrews Avenue in Wilton Manors, just south of Oakland Park on the east side of the street. Beer and wine is offered. Catering is available and they deliver- call 954-390-7410.
